Premiere of the Final Episode of “Nowy Tygodnik Kulturalny”

On December 13, the 56th episode of “Nowy Tygodnik Kulturalny” became available on the YouTube channel and in audio format on podcast platforms. Produced with the support of the Wajda Film Centre, this final episode marks the conclusion of the program in its current format. It serves as a remarkable summary of a journey that demonstrated the timeless relevance of conversations and debates about culture and art, highlighting their indispensable place in public discourse.

“Nowy Tygodnik Kulturalny” has a turbulent history, beginning with its removal from public television. It quickly became a symbol of the fight for freedom of speech and independent cultural reflection. Thanks to the support of the Wajda Film Centre and a dedicated community of patrons, the program not only survived but evolved, providing a platform for in-depth discussions on film, literature, theater, music, and the visual arts.

After years of creating a space for cultural discourse, “Nowy Tygodnik Kulturalny” has concluded its activities. The final episode, supported by the Wajda Film Centre, reflects on an extraordinary journey. The program became a symbol of free speech, social responsibility, and a commitment to democratic values: freedom of expression, pluralism, and honest public debate.

With Wajda Film Centre support and the patron community’s engagement through crowdfunding, “Nowy Tygodnik Kulturalny” found its place online. Loyal viewers and new audiences could access monthly discussions about literature, theater, cinema, art, and music, all conducted with respect for knowledge, diverse opinions, and passion.

The realization of “Nowy Tygodnik Kulturalny” was more than a media project—it was an expression of profound social responsibility. By taking on the responsibility of saving the program, the Wajda Film Centre demonstrated that culture requires protection and support, especially during times when media pluralism is under threat.

“From the very beginning, our aim was to provide listeners and viewers with a space where culture would be discussed with respect and passion, without compromising quality. We believe that independent cultural reflection is a cornerstone of a free society, and ‘Nowy Tygodnik Kulturalny’ became a symbol of this,” said Joanna Rożen-Wojciechowska, Director of the Wajda Film Centre.

Throughout its run, “Nowy Tygodnik Kulturalny” produced 56 episodes featuring renowned artists, critics, and experts, including Agnieszka Holland, Maja Komorowska, Krystyna Janda, Andrzej Chyra, Jan Klata, Maria Peszek, Dorota Masłowska, Filip Springer, Jan Emil Młynarski, Jerzy Radziwiłowicz, Agnieszka Smoczyńska, and Grzegorz Jarzyna.
