On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 6:00 PM Japan Standard Time, the National Film Archive of Japan in Tokyo hosted the opening of the exhibition Wajda. Joanna Rożen-Wojciechowska and Katarzyna Ślesicka represented the Wajda Film Centre (Centrum Kultury Filmowej im. Andrzeja Wajdy) during the vernissage.
The Japanese audience holds great admiration for Andrzej Wajda\u2019s artistry, his sense of romanticism, and his films\u2019 themes of sacrifice, nobility, and visual sophistication. “Andrzej Wajda convincingly demonstrated that to be an artist of international renown\u2014to be celebrated and understood worldwide\u2014one must first be deeply rooted in their own culture, with its unique language, metaphors, and ideology,” stated Rafał Syska, Director of the National Centre for Film Culture (NCKF) and curator of the exhibition.
Hisashi Okajima, Director of the National Film Archive of Japan, extended his gratitude to Minister Marta Cienkowska, Katarzyna Nowak, Director of the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology, and Olga Wysocka, Director of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, for their contributions to organizing the exhibition.
