Reopening of Luna Cinema: 25 Years of Wajda’s Oscar
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Andrzej Wajda receiving the Oscar and the reopening of the Luna Cinema, the Wajda Film Centre, in collaboration with the Mazovian Institute of Culture, invites you to a special screening of Everything for Sale and a lecture by Max Cegielski. A special surprise also awaits the audience that evening! The following day, on March 8, adult viewers can enjoy a screening of the unique film Teaches of Peaches.
The events planned by Wajda Film Centre for the opening weekend of Luna Cinema, now managed by the Mazovian Institute of Culture, mark the beginning of an ongoing collaboration between the two institutions.
As Wajda Film Centre, we aim to introduce artistic documentary films, screenings for young audiences and schools from the LET’S DOC festival, as well as retrospectives of Polish and global cinema classics into its repertoire,” says Joanna Rożen-Wojciechowska, director of the Wajda Film Centre. “A special place will, of course, be reserved for the works of our patron, Andrzej Wajda. But that’s not all – in April, we will launch the series In Search of Freedom: The Works of Agnieszka Holland in the Face of Contemporary Crises. Every Tuesday, we will showcase her films, beginning with a masterclass featuring the director herself. At Luna, we will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Gdynia Film Festival with our original program Golden Lions and a Brick. The title refers to the memorable moment when Andrzej Wajda received a symbolic award from journalists on the festival steps.

Meeting with special guests and a screening of
Everything for Sale, dir. Andrzej Wajda, Poland 1969, 105 min.
Lecture: Max Cegielski. Host: Kaja Klimek.
The film’s central theme is the tragic death of Zbigniew Cybulski (who is not mentioned by name in the film), explored from the perspective of those closest to him and his colleagues. In Wajda’s semi-documentary film, the role of the director is played by Andrzej Łapicki, while actors Beata Tyszkiewicz, Elżbieta Czyżewska, Daniel Olbrychski, and Bogumił Kobiela appear under their real names. Everything for Sale is a self-referential film that examines the boundaries of creating a “film within a film” and explores the artistic act of honoring a recently deceased individual.
This event is held under the media patronage of Polish Television.

Screening of the documentary Teaches of Peaches
Dir. Philipp Fussenegger, Judy Landkammer, Germany 2024, 102 min.
During the tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Teaches of Peaches album, the artist—dubbed the “grandmother of electroclash” by the media—takes the stage pushing a walker with squeaky wheels, wearing a giant vagina-shaped hat and plush breast-shaped slippers. Her grotesque costumes, juxtaposed with dark electro beats, add a playful twist to her raw lyrics that celebrate sexual freedom in all its forms.
Through interviews, extensive archival footage, and electrifying live performances, the film traces Canadian kindergarten teacher Merrill Nisker’s journey to becoming a feminist icon, queer rights activist, and an uncompromising artist. We see her early years spent with roommate Feist, her “Berlin underground fairytale” with Chilly Gonzales in their duo The Shit, and the origins of the album that changed her life—featuring cult songs like Fuck the Pain Away and AA XXX.
This is a bold and intimate exploration of Peaches’ creative origins, highlighting the hard work behind her artistic persona and her explosive, fearless stage performances.
LUNA CINEMA

The owner and administrator of the Luna Cinema is the Mazovian Institute of Culture, which will independently manage the cinema starting in 2025. Necessary renovation and adaptation works will be carried out to support this transition. However, the character of the venue will remain unchanged. Luna will continue to host film retrospectives and festivals, author meetings, educational workshops, and screenings in the arthouse cinema format.
Luna will remain part of the Arthouse Cinema Network and continue collaborating with Europa Cinemas, an organization promoting European film. The Mazovian Institute of Culture has also established a curatorial partnership with the Arthouse Cinema Association and the Wajda Film Centre.
